Just had an interesting hour looking through some old documents, mainly looking for my hospital appointment card for the pacemaker. Found it thank goodness and appointment is due in January.
What with coming across old wedding, birth and death certificates plus a ration book from WW2 its been pleasant to look back in time. It has helped to calm me down a bit.
Its fascinating looking back over old documents because on my f-i-ls birth certificate in 1883 states that he was born in Sheepshed. On my m-i-ls birth certificate in 1889 the name was spelt Shepshed.
I also came across these two cards sent to my hubby's mother and his grandmother during W.W.1. from my hubby's Uncle Alf who was fighting in France.

They are both so beautiful, a lot of thought went into making them, such treasures for sure.
So lovely you have them our Maisie, and all your other precious keepsakes. hug

Really pleased you found your appointment card, annoying isn't it when on the hunt.
Then starting to look in the less obvious places.

Gosh, what beautiful treasures both those embroidered cards are, Maisie, and how nice it must be to wander through boxes of these wonderful keepsakes!

Gosh, yes, a simply spelling mistake can make things challenging for any one trying to trace ancestral roots, that is for sure ... which is correct, I wonder ... Sheepshed or Shepshed, I wonder.

Thanks for getting back to me Tan and Mara.
Having looked through old books Mara I dont think it was a spelling mistake. I believe the so called high ups of that era decided to change the name to Shepshed during 1887.
It really is fascinating to look at old documents and birth certificates. Very Happy
