In The Mood Empty In The Mood

Post by Maywalk on Wed Apr 09, 2014 1:15 pm

I have just sat and watched this with hubby and thoroughly enjoyed it because it took me back to 1944 just before D-Day when the 82nd Airborne Division came with their band on the bandstand in our local park and what a fantastic night that was. I was had just turned 14 years of age and it was double British summertime so it was light up until 11pm. The band really let rip and we were all jiving round the bandstand to this.
Funnily enough when hubby finished watching it he said that they had missed a bit out of the original version but I had to tell him that it was probably done because they only had a certain time limit with it being U-tube. Hubby noticed it because he used to pay the saxophone. Funny how he can remember way back in time but cant remember what I tell him from one room to the other but that is this rotten Dementia.

Here is the bandstand still in the same place. What fantastic memories as well as deeply sad ones because many did not come back.

Thank you our Maisie, that brings back lots of memories for me. I remember my mum and dad dancing to this music in our living room when I was a little boy. They danced to Glen Miller, Harry James, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey and their fave, Benny Goodman, my parents loved swing music and especially his. That really was a trip down memory lane for me, thank you.  chuckles

And to think the very same grandstand is still there, our Maisie!

Gosh, I can so easily imagine you there swinging to the music - and how pleased I am to read that your hubby not only enjoyed hearing the music again with you, but actually noticed part of it was missing.

Horrible Alzie certainly takes it's toll but how wonderfully both of you seem to be coping with it, our dear Maisie.

Many thanks Rich and Mara.
Lovely memories but very much overshadowed by sadness.

I found a story last night from one of the 82nd Airborne Division who was stationed here and what went off during D-Day. I was transfixed and I have passed it on to Cliff to read because it mentions his old RAF station and the town where I was evacuated too. If anyone would be interested in reading it I will pass it on.

Will start another thread then Rich and its quite a long tale. Very interesting to me though especially as I know they were stationed near the town where I was evacuated to.
It will be titled 82nd Airborne Division.

That has made my day Rich. I am proud to have you join the family.WELCOME to the zany Walker household.  hug
Wait until I tell my son what you have said.
He will say "Rich does not know you as well as I do"  Laughing

We have a great relationship and can rib each other without getting annoyed.
He is taking me shopping tomorrow. I usually finish up with all the wrong things that he dumps in the trolley and we finish up laughing together. Hubby will have my neighbour to keep him company for an hour or so and it just gets me out of the house for a while to help me wind down.
Yes I have tried line shopping but cant say that I am over excited with it because the bread is usually on the borderline date of selling. I would sooner go and pick my own and my son will be pushing the trolley.
