Michaela's car Empty Michaela's car

Post by honeybee on Fri Apr 18, 2014 12:09 pm

Michaela had an accident she is fine, A lady did not stop at the red traffic light.Michaela saw the one car stop, not the other one that came flying through red and sideswiped Michaela's car. The lady did not stop , the witness's came a statement. The lady we believe stopped about 100 meters away checked her car and drop off.
The golf Michaela's was driving that she inherited from me was declared a write off by the insurance. All the panels to be replaced just did not justify it to be repaired. Now someone will buy that car and sell it. They fix up accident cars and resell. That is why although we only got paid out R26000 we cant get much for that . We just scared "Why are they selling" We have no option as we cant get her a car on finance not now

This is the golf
Michaela's car Golf10
Now the passenger door wont open either. So maybe with the speed the lady was travelling the insuransance says the bumper took a knock and thus knocked everything out of line

Thank goodness Michaela is fine
Now it has been searching the private sales cars on Internet till I have had scew eyes
We are looking at this one tomorrow. This is a 2000 Daewoo lanos, a car we have no clue about
Michaela's car $_20

We just looking at others I have seen a Ford Fiesta which is also ok. We want that it has papers, a good service history ,
Remember when I bought the volksie. Oh my goodness it did not have a undercarriage. Watch us when we look at cars now it will be Alan and I climbing under the car. They can think we daft. curlers  surprise   If we can bring him down on his price, we can take it to the AA (Automobile association )for a thorough check. the only downside buying privately you have to pay cash immediately . The insurance has paid out  and we have to make sure we have money to put the car through the MOT(Roadworthy) as wwell That is over R1000.00
We were telling Michaela at an intersection especially ,you have your eyes everywhere. The witness did say this woman was really going fast and maybe did not have a license, we could have sued her for the excess. which as I had said on chat was so high. We did not know where we were getting the R7000 excess as Michaela is under 25 years old. So for people like me the excess is R3500  then they add on another R3500 for Michaela being under 25. Well she put it on facebook and was just asking for a panel beater should anyone know a good one. Her biological father, who I have not heard from in maybe- oh so many years and is a contact on mIchaelas facebook. pm'd Michaela and asked her to tell her dad to contact him. He works in Saudi Arabia. Well he paid r7000 for the excess. So,for someone who never Michaela I think he saw he last when she was 4years old and then about 2 months ago, he asked her to come to the airport - he was flying back to Saudi Arabia and would like to see her -Hein took her. That is just as much as we have seen of him. I am very grateful that he found it in his heart to pay the excess - he said we must not think about it again.
Oh well back to hunting for cars as we might not like or find something wrong with the Daewoo  Drive

I have been so looking for a ford fiesta our June , they are so pricey though . That is because we only have this small amount. I was hoping to find one. to no avail
This guy with the Daewoo make me very unsure, first his friend is using it, now he has lent it to a client.
So blow him. I am looking for more. BUT we are against the car dealers. They looking at the site ll the time they get it from the private dealer then try and sell it for thousands more
I have found 2 cars on the site now. Alan will phone them again in the morning to get where we must go. I think the one is an Opel Astra and the other is a Toyota tazz.
Sellers are very nervous  they never know if the buyer is a scammer. So lets hold thumbs I am just so tired of looking . Also we just dont wanna buy. Giggle  We keep asking Michaela her opinion, she I think will be just happy to have wheels again.
Also I am not sure of the Daewoo, why is this one we looking at still for sale. The others we phoned were sold within an hour of being on olx

I said we need to look at the site first thing in the morning -like now  as well 7pm when the car dealers are tucked up in bed. blow
I do think they have spotters who are watching the private car selling sites
We just cant make the same mistake like we did with the volksieMichaela's car Th_mec10

Oi I go on early on the olx site, see a toyata Runx in our Price range.. They warn you beware of scammers.
He says to Alan give me a deposit and I will keep the car for you. Now Alan and Hein went and looked at a golf early evening last night. Well it looked like a piece of scrap, yet in the photo it looked great. Maybe they photoshop these photos.
Alan said he will not pay a cent till he has seen the car. Now I see he has had 53 views , wonder if he has caught others
Alan phone this guy with the daewoo and he said he promises he will phone us first thing in the morning. Maybe he has told all the enquiries he has had on the car the same.
Oh my word, but we will find something. There is a place on the net a real dodgy area , yet he has so many cars. If we dont get the Daewoo we going to risk going into that area.
I will take my pepper spray gun with me... Oh hell I dont need this at the moment, I am sure we will find something soon. I hope this fetching her and taking her to work is a pain

A pretty white car and so pleased it's been found - especially after the woes of trying to find the right replacement, Honeybee.

And ever so nice of her bio-dad to pay the "excess", too.

Post by honeybee on Fri Apr 25, 2014 5:57 am

Oh well we set off early to collet car
We get told battery is finished so Alan goes and buys a new battery right all happy.
I travel behind Alan and I see puffs of smoke coming out the bonnet. Look at the temp gauge all is fine ... what could it be.
Alan pulls over after along time to see how the petrol is. I say the petrol Hellooooo there is smoke coming out the engine
He opens the bonnet and wham the pipe them explodes in half lucky he had walked a bit away as that water was boiling hot.
We phone the dealer he is sending a mechanic with the pipe. Well he arrives with a barrel of water  Thud
Now I am loosing my sense of humour, it was freezing when we left so I am dressed like an eskimo. It gets so hot and nowhere to get shade. Alan walks to a close by fill up station and gets us something to drinks. 2 hours later the mechanic came with the pipe that attaches to the radiator. We pull in the garage and get the radiator properly filled. and yip petrol just to be sure. We then travel hand the keys to Michaela and said "OK now we are car out. it is your baby
This is a few pics I took with my pocket camera

Michaela's car Empty Re: Michaela's car

Post by Alan on Sun Apr 27, 2014 4:36 am

Well, to update everybody since this last post from our Honeybee. Michaela finally arrives home on Friday evening with the car boiling like crazy. Ok, she tells me that she drove the whole way home in 3rd, so I assume that she strained the engine. I get up on Saturday morning, take the car for a drive, and guess what, the radiator fan does not kick in. Ok, so we have another problem. Off I go in the Vivo to a Volkswagen shop in the vicinity. All they sell me is a new pipe for the one that burst, which turns out to be a good thing because the pipe that the idiot mechanic that the seller sent put on a completely wrong pipe.

Many hours later, with Honeybee spending hours on the Internet, we start getting some freelance mechanics who will come out and fix the fan problem for us. A mechanic and Auto Electrician arrived today, this is what follows:

Well, an interesting start to Freedom Day and a Sunday to boot  Michaela's car Icon_biggrin

At least we now have a Golf with a sound engine and a working electronic fan on the radiator after a further R1,400 expenditure, R500 parts and R900 labour. For a Sunday, and a public holiday, especially a public holiday that celebrates the freedom of black South Africans, R900 to a couple of black guys, a mechanic and an Auto Electrician, was cheap at the price, and this comment is not meant to be racist. I really do appreciate what these guys have done for us, and over and above all that they still drove around the whole of the city centre of Johannesburg looking for parts, all included in the R900!  Michaela's car 2568673843

Oi we cant let the dealers mechanic work on the car. He put the wrong hose on when we broke down.
I few more thingies have to be done. Michelle said why did we not buy for R26000 what we got. Ok yes but if something went wrong and could be big we will be in th epoo. This mechanic said on the whole it is going well now.
Then he shows us this I will post a photo. This is how the dealers mechanic fixes cars
Now we just need a clamp.  Thud  a cable tie. as in plastic oh my hat. Oh well we getting used to driving battered our cars that have to be over hauled  Rolling with laughte

I must admit that I was totally stunned to be shown the cable ties used to hold a water pipe to or from the radiator thermostat, surely plastic eventually melts?

I will have to go and get a new instrument cluster from the spares shop on Tuesday, after the public holiday tomorrow, and will get a new clamp at the same time.

I went and bought 2 speakers for the car audio system and will fit them tomorrow.

Oh heck we really did get the wool pulled over our eyes, the cylinder head has to be skimmed the tappets replaced. This guy knew and their is nothing we can do about it. We just have to bite the bullet. Sorry I am not being racist but I will never do business with a man of Indian culture. He wont take our calls. All we want from him now id the papers. He knew that cylinder head had gone but we cant prove it. We have the mobile mechanic here and he is hoping he can find an engineering company to skim the head. To be honest I feel ill
But by the time they finished she should have a good car. This is when you buy second hand here. They sell their problems to you

We just could not enter into a finance agreement getting a new car. Not a chance she will do that herself oneday
We bought the other 3 children cars. also second hand, never did we have this problem
Gary tried to pay me a wee bit back every month for the car we got him

Such a shame you've had to have all these car problems.

We've only bought one car (for Sally) 2nd hand but we paid for all the driving lessons for both of them.
