Sundays road bike ride Empty Sundays road bike ride

Post by nordog on Wed Oct 22, 2014 10:39 am

Today I had check out Claud for the 80k ride on this Sunday, mainly the brakes (forgot I had cleaned the rims for Dylan & he only did a few laps of the circuit not used since) but the main thing was changing the peddles from old flats to my clip types for my shoes for more pulling power.
Took these photos Condor for any tips on keeping the brakes central so that they don't slow me down when I want speed or going up hills:

Can you see any fault there?

I obviously have no 'tips', Nordog - our Condor surely will, though.

But just think ... if you had a bike with a side car, your darling wife could head out and about with you, too flower .

I have no knowledge either Nordog but it looks as if you're well-prepared so have a good ride.

In pic 3 the brake cable is trapped by that cord thing. Side-pulls are lined-up by pulling levers then, adjusting whole brake assembly either to tight or left, then tightening the nut behind the frame. Before riding put a drop of oil between brake arms - it helps them move easily. If too tight loosen nuts at front, then retighten and set front lock-nut.

Looking at pics again the nut - A - is in wrong place - it should be behind the front nut in order to lock it - at position  - B

As it is the brake arms will be jamming together. There could be a curved spacer missing that goes up against forks at front - sometimes behind too.

Here's a side-pull correctly assembled showing frontal lock-nuts and curved spacers. This one would go on the back wheel as spacers have narrow curve.

Between brake arms there should be a soft metal (brass) or nylon washer. If brass use oil, if nylon Fairy Liquid is good lubricant.

Yes Honeybee that right 80k or I might do the 100k see how I feel on the day.
I hope so Tan sunny just watch this space for I have cleared my SD card & ordered a new 64gb card so should have plenty of video.
We have a 07:00 start from my house, luckily Adrian is picking me up so no driving for me. He is meeting a friend so I will be riding on my own they & Adrian wife are only doing the 60k so I had better put my foot down so as not to keep them waiting for going home.

That bike is worth the work Nordog. Those brake assemblies would cost a few bob these days. It should be fine for 80k!!

I now wish I had taken them Tan sunny  as the rear brake did indeed go a little wonky and kept binding, my riding partner had an even worse time a spoke snapped at the hub, that gave him a very buckled rear wheel. there was a mechanic at the feed station he did the best he could to even out the buckle and my brake problem but I decided to do the 60 k or medium ride instead of the longer one.

My riding buddies recorded 101 k Condor, not sure how or why. I forgot to take my own gps phone so have no record of my own. I did have the booster battery to keep my phone going but that is useless with out the phone. :query:
