Ainsworth walking day and band march

Post by Nev on Sat Jun 05, 2010 11:08 am

I have mentioned the fact the band plus myself will be providing the music for the Ainsworth walking day parade.
It takes place on Sunday June 13th and should start around ten in the morning.
Our music will consist of march tunes while walking or marching. When the parade stops at various places for a prayer and hymn, the band then provide the music for hymn tunes while every one else sings along.
As long as the weather is good, it can be a great time for all and finishes in the field opposite from the start point where the locals have a field day after the parade.
Below is a satellite view with an arrow showing where we start from, and the field where we finish opposite.

Here is a proper map showing where Ainsworth is in relation to Bolton.

I have now got the correct time, the march itself is scheduled to start at 10-30AM, we will be meeting at around 10-00AM so we are all set up for the start, not that we have much to set up, apart from making sure the bass drum doesn't make Jane fall over forwards with the weight of it ha ha.

We can only hope the weather folk have got it wrong as there is a forecast for light rain at times tomorrow. However all is not lost if it does rain off the parade, as there will be a church service instead, and we will provide the music for the hymns.
if the parade does go ahead it should take no longer than an hour at the most, and it won't be the first time we have been rained on half way round. :smilie_wet_032

Ah, we won't be wearing red, for outside and due to both the expense of those red ones, and also the fact rain can do them damage, the blue ones are now used outdoors. At least for now until we find some way of protecting the originally very expensive red ones from the weather, or a new investment in perhaps a different colour.

It was a really nice morning for Nev, his band and the Walkers. Nev was just getting out of his car when I arrived and a few minutes later we got a young-lady Bandsman to take this pic. Nev was quite busy sorting his music etc. and he said, "June's over there." Within a few minutes the band were ready and the walk started.

June and Himself were sat in a bus-shelter waiting for the Walk to start so I nipped over and Himself took this pic.

Himself took a pic on June's camera too so she'll be uploading that soon.

The Community Wardens and Police - from Radcliffe all know me... ...and they looked over and shouted...June was... ...I said quickly, "I mend their bikes...honest!"

A few minutes after that Nev's band led the Walk from the school yard. I think that is Nev just to the left of the Community Warden. (She calls at Radcliffe Market to give traders 'ASBO's' ) As they started the walk the band sounded great - Nice one Nev! No wonder they're Champs.

I left then but I think June took more pics of the walk.

I have met people that I got to know on the 'net before and it is great when you actually meet them in person. It is like meeting an old friend - like a next-door-neighbour. So if you get chance - like we did this morning - it will be ok.
June, the pic of himself is in me gallery
