World War Two - 71st D-Day Anniversary - 6th June

About 160,000 Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, to fight Nazi soldiers on June 6, 1944.  More than 5,000 ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by the end of the day, the troops gained a foot- hold in Normandy. Thousands of soldiers lost their lives, but thousands more trekked across Europe to end the war. The invasion is one of history’s most significant military attacks.

God Bless them all, from every country. They will never be forgotten.

Bless too Bernard Jordan, who hit the headlines last year when he escaped from his care home to go to embark on on a trip to the D-Day 70th Anniversary in Normandy. He wore his war medals with pride. Sadly he passed away last year, 30th December 2014, aged 90 years.
He had earned the nickname of ''The Great Escaper''.
Bernard's Wife Irene passed away one week later, there was a Joint Service for them both.  hug

Thank you our Joelle for making our D-Day Banner. xx  hug
