100 years ago - The Battle of the Somme (French: Bataille de la Somme, German: Schlacht an der Somme), also known as the Somme Offensive, was a battle of the First World War fought by the armies of the British and French empires against the German Empire. It took place between 1 July and 18 November 1916 on both sides of upper reaches of the River Somme in France. It was the largest battle of the First World War on the Western Front; more than one million men were wounded or killed, making it one of the bloodiest battles in human history.

God Bless them all. Battle of the Somme - 1st July 1916 / 18th November 1916 9k=

Yes so moving for sure our Joelle, as I watched on the TV. I never realised so many were killed on the very first day, as of course so many were killed over the four months.

What bothers me is the attitude of most young men of today, after World wars with millions of dead forgotten. Is it just history as in the war of the Roses?

Who was the worst Hitler or Stalin or the generals of the First World World War.
Then in the Second War in Singapore our man in charge let the Japanese murder thousands of our solders by surrendering.
