That is interesting Maisie, especially the small article "Haulage Licence granted" It rang a bell and though I didn't know him, he did a tremendous amount in this town and sadly died in August last year.
here is an article from our local paper about him.

How very interesting Nev and what a brave chappie he was. Reminded me of my own brother because he was in the R.A.F. and he was sent out to fight the Japs in 1942. He did come back in one piece although he was a changed man. He died quite a while back.
Who knows they may have known each other.

And I found the cutting about Lord Bath of Longleat here in Wiltshire, about some naughty soldiers had taken a small rowing boat with out permission and sank it the lake.

I might pass this onto our local rag. Well done Maisie for finding this.

About the rubbish building up there, even to this day with several strikes now and again this brings troubles, but that must have been awful all that pile as stated.
How lovely even as Princess Elizabeth, our Queen even then wore lovely hats, as well I remember such lovely ones she wears.
So terribly tragic there with the death of the comedian, a huge shock for his wife.
I wonder how the cat did all that, maybe climbed a pole, or wee'd on it. chuckles
Strange about the Whale Meat, seems it was liked by many, but I've not heard of it being eaten in my time, I wonder if maybe there was a ban on killing the Whales for food.
So interesting to read this our Maisie, thank you for putting it on for us to see.

I never ate any whale meat Tan although my mother did buy some for my father to try but when he saw it he told her in no uncertain terms where to put it.
It finished up in the dustbin even the cat turned his nose up at it. lol!
