Great bargain you got there then Condor Very Happy
I know my dad only ever bought one brand new car, he had more trouble with it than what it was worth, so from then on he only ever bought second hand cars and hardly ever had any major problems with them.

Very Happy I've never had a new car. The nicest, perhaps, car was a Renault Laguna - I had it about three years. Smooth but a bit boring.

But now I have none - and really, just need a shopping-trolley, so small/economical is on the cards...
any suggestions anyone?????

Ahaa, how about a Bubble Car, doesn't take up too much space, so not much trouble parking it!....

Or....

Okay, I will leave this for sensible ideas!..
Strange looking cars weren't they though. Very Happy

Now that was indeed a great bargain, Condor - and to get 5 years use out of it - wow!!

Cars are so different here than in Britain but how about a little 'Smart Car'?

Condor--I drove one like yours ( I think )---

It was the delivery truck for the drug store I worked at---had a manual transmission on the floor---I used to drive it sometimes with out using the clutch for a challenge---I got quite good at it. I could go in & out of all the forward gears------Teenager thing Smile

One of my vehicles I left out was a 1953 Chevy station wagon --I had this for my surfing trips to the beach

Pretty tricky there learning how to drive without using the clutch, Skip! (Where were you when I was trying to figure out how to double-clutch! - grin).

That 1953 Chevy station wagon must have been great to drive - a 'true tank' that undoubtedly held tons of stuff, including your surf board!

The Harley's are just beautiful Skip but, having up to (?) 5 children bikes were a no go.
But, many years ago drove a J type Bedford, like this but with a flat-back, and, even with a clutch, you had to double it to get gears (no synchro then!) and only 3 gears!

Nice!

Soon after we bought our cabin I bought a brand new 1993 Ford 4x4---like the one below only blue-- ( can't believe I had it for over 10 years & not one picture )

Also bought this 1st year we had our cabin--------real fun ride---would go anywhere----but I broke the transmission ( twice )pulling stuff I shouldn't have

Replaced the Dune buggy with this 1978 CJ 5 Jeep---Now it WILL pull

I currently own this 2006 toyota tucoma 4X4---have another 2001 also

Very Happy The buggy's & jeep are brill Skip, but here they won't make them 'Road Legal' - so you can't get insurance.
A week or two back Mrs Condor said, "We could get a Smart car." Which is fine when you're not the one having to drive it!

Yes Honeybee, no diesel bill for two weeks!

The bikes are beautiful, Skip - especially the low rider! Do understand why one wouldn't be practical with your life style when moving to where you are now - but I bet there are warm summer days when you still long to fly along the highway on one.

Granted the dune buggy may not have been all that practical but what fun the two of you must have had with it! The jeep - well, I think of jeeps as being darn near indestructible and really do like your truck and bet your Gunner especially loves the back seat so he can always be near his best human friend too!

How every odd that jeeps aren't 'road legal' there, Condor - dune buggies surely aren't here either but jeeps surely are. But goodness, as for your cute blue car ... some romantic dinners out, some flowers delivered for 'no reason at all except you love' her - do this often enough and you may just get your wish for that sporty two-seater!

Honeybee, the prices for diesel and gas are skyrocketing everywhere - scary isn't it?! It's times like this when it would be good to live in the middle of 'no where' so all driving involved long distances rather than the shorter stop and go stuff of traffic.

If you get a cute little VW bug, the gas bills will surely be so slight it would perhaps more than make up for the higher gas mileage Bwana's car is getting. Yup, sounds like a wonderful reason for you to get a cute little VW bug convertible!

Tan, you could treat yourself to that pink little 'Bug' that Condor found - then you could really zip hither and yon any time you wanted to and wouldn't that be so wonderful for you!

When we had our 2 girls one after the other, we sold our 2 beetles and bought a Renault 10.
I could hear bwana come down the dusty road as it had like a stone in the hubcaps and woul go ching ching.
When we took the girls to the botanical gardens, there was a long hill we had to use.
Dang it always boiled. Stop as we always carried a bottle of water cool her down and carry on. Then coming home we could just ride in 3rd gear and when safe put her in neutral to keep her cool

The it blew a gasket and bwana with a manual stripped the engine... we did not have money to send her to a garage. In that time he walked miles and miles to work. we were in a way out place and for me the nearest shop was 17 kilometers. A shop kindly would deliver some nessicities for us.
When engine was put back he had one nut over and to this day where it belonged we dont know. She did start after her overhaul first kick of the key.
We then another baby coming(Gary) we went for a VW variant station wagon

It was cream in colour. Gave us many happy miles of travelling . We then bought a Toyota Corolla which we drove for years
After that in those days when you climbed the ladder in a company you got a company car and that was when the days of us having 2 cars started

juat thinking out loud. when I took my licence I had to do all the hand signs -waving out the window no indicators. round and round was I was turning left, then to turn right stick your hand rigid out the window rain or snow , one did their hand signs . Then when slowing down, stick your hand out the window and flap your arm up and down
Now the drivers here have indicators and they just stop. oi so now ones eyes are used left and right

That's is what did and do's happen here honeybee. "I drive here every day, You should know were I am going" They think you can read there minds even walkers would like to know in advance were a car is planning on going.

Yes Captain and some of these were prone to sticking in an 'up' position (they also lit-up) and so sometimes you'd aproach a T junction with both apparently indicating!
